First Educational Tour

The first educational tour of True Italian Taste took place in May 2017 and brought 9 foodies coming from US, Canada and Mexico together to visit Puglia and Campania in a 5 day trip and to learn more about their enogastronomic products.  Download the guide below to discover what places to visit and things to do in a 5 day trip to Puglia and Campania.

Day Three

The influencers were transferred from Trani to Castel del Monte (UNESCO World Heritage) for a guided visit to the historic and beautiful Castel del Monte. The team then left for Corato to visit the vineyards and cellars of Torrevento winery. They met with the wine maker and enjoyed a delightful wine and food tasting (white, rosè and red wine D.O.C. e D.O.C.G. and Moscato di Trani "Dulcis in Fundo").

The day did not stop there! The influencers left Corato in Puglia for Caserta in Campania with a pit stop in St. Leucio. They walked through the beautiful Caserta city centre and concluded the day at Le Colonne Restaurant- Chef Rosanna Marziale (One MICHELIN Star Restaurant. High quality cooking, worth a stop!).

Castel del Monte

Castel del Monte is a citadel boasting one of Italy’s most fascinating 13th century castles (according to the “Enciclopedia Italiana”). Built during the 1240s by the Emperor Frederick II, it is well known for its octagonal shape and its octagonal towers on each corner. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and appears on the Italian version of the 1 euro-cent coin.

Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG origin is linked to ancient mythologies and its story comes from a unique background: an extraordinary land in terms of history and beauty; a special terrain rich in limestone; an authentic region known for its food excellence and beautiful landscapes. This wine have had the DOCG designation since 2011, meaning the producers of this wine have to follow the strictest production procedures to ensure the character and quality of its grapes.

Moreover, Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG must be aged for at least two years, at least one of which in a wooden barrel. All this to ensure it becomes the famous wine with a floral, elegant aroma, rich in polyphenols, with a moderate sugar content, and enhanced by spicy notes with very good aging potential. DOCG designation

The DOCG acronym stands for "Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin" and indicates a quality category similar to yet even more stringent than the DOC Controlled Designation Of Origin. Only the finest products can be named DOCG, subject to evaluation, analysis and tasting by a government-licensed committee.

Caserta is the capital of the Province of Caserta in the Campania region of Italy. It's known for the the World Heritage–listed Reggia di Caserta, with its monumental paintings and fountain-filled gardens. North, the Monumental Complex Belvedere San Leucio was built as a model town. East, the imposing Carolino Aqueduct is an 18th-century structure. West, in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, are the ruins of the Anfiteatro Campano, which once hosted gladiator fights.
